Regarding Fortnightly Presentation of 6 weeks Training


This is to inform all the students of IT 4th Sem and CSE 4th Sem those who are undergoing 6 week  training outside the college that they are required to report to the college for fortnightly Presentation on 24th June, 2011 at 10:00 Am sharp.

Students who cannot report on 24th June, 2011 due to any unavoidable reason, They should report on 27th June, 2011 for fortnightly Presentation at 10:00 AM Sharp.

Note:  Those students who have not submitted their confirmation letter are required to submit the same by 24th June, 2011, Otherwise their training will not be considered.

Summer Training of CSE 1st Year and 2nd Year will start from 6th June 2011

The Summer Training of students of CSE 1st and 2nd year is scheduled to start from 6th June 2011. The training will be conducted by professionals of HCL. The students are expected to take maximum benefit of this opportunity.

Department of CSE & IT conducted Expert Lecture on Software Testing

Department of CSE & IT, BFCET organized a guest Lecture for the students of CSE 6th sem, Er. Simpel Jindal Assistant Professor in Yadavindra College of Engineering, Talwandi Sabo, came to give expert Lecture on S/W Testing on 1st April 2011. Er. Sukhpreet Kaur, Head, Deptt. of CSE welcomed her. Er. Simpel Jindal started with the introduction of the topic and told the students that software testing is a new developing area for the jobs. She discussed various Software Testing techniques and gave brief overview on various aspects on Software testing. She said Software testing form an important & essential process without which the software development process is incomplete.
All the students of CSE 6th sem appreciated the expert lecture and were grateful to Er. Simple Jindal for giving them such useful information. Department of CSE is constantly putting efforts to import more & useful knowledge to the students through expert lecture of various renowned personalities in the field of Computer science and Engineering.

Group Discussion on the Subject Operating System

Various Books and topics were discussed among all with full enthusiasm and in a positive manner.
Er. Amandeep Singh gave different aspects of definition of operating system. Er.Sukhpreet Kaur HOD CSE had taught the subject last year so, she was really helpful in clearing doubts about certain topics. Er. Gurpreet Singh Maan and  Er. Puneet Bansal agreed that the book by Galvin is very good for theory but not so good for practical knowledge. Er.Sunil Nagpal of CSE Department explained about deadlock and how they occur in Operating System. Er. Gurveen Kaur, HOD, IT Department laid emphasis on deadlock handling and deadlock prevention. Er. Manushi discussed the starvation problem in operating system, How it occur and How it can be resolved. Er.Amandeep Kaur said that according to her round robin algorithm and priority algorithm are best among all scheduling algorithms. Er. Harleen Kaur is taking the subject of LINUX so she discussed unix and linux in brief stating their advantages and disadvantages over windows.
Overall the discussion on the operating system proved to be very fruitful to every faculty member of staff. 

Group Discussion on the Subject FCPIT

Department of CSE & IT had a group discussion on the subject “Fundamentals of Computer Programming and Information Technology” on 19th February 2011. All the faculty members participated with full enthusiasm in the group discussion. Er. Gurpreet Singh Mann of IT deptt. is taking the aforesaid subject of 1st year students. He initiated the discussion by giving introduction to the subject
Syllabus of FCPIT was discussed by all faculty members. The subject was taught by many of the faculty members, so a very healthy and fruitful discussion started among all. Er. Sukhpreet Kaur, HOD (CSE) stated some of the merits of teaching this subject to all the branches not only to the students of CSE & IT. Er. Gurveen Kaur, HOD (IT) discussed the first part of syllabus i.e. fundamentals of computers and was joined by rest of the faculty members explaining various aspects of syllabus which need more attention and explanation in class.
Further, several books were suggested by faculty members who had taught the subject previously. For the fundamentals of computer book by Sinha & Sinha was suggested by Er. Sunil Nagpal. Book by R.S Salaria was suggested by Er. Gurpreet Singh Mann.
Er. Harleen Kaur said that the topic of windows , operating system and MS-Word is best covered in labs giving students more exposure & practical knowledge. For the programming language, C++ book by S.K Pandey was suggested by Er. Amandeep Singh. Book by Balaguruswamy for C++ programming and concepts were referred by Er. Manushi.
Er. Sumit Arora said that whole syllabus is covered very well by Yashpal Sinha in the book of FCPT by Kalyani Publications.
Further some topics related to the subject like HTTP & FTP, NTF & FAT were discussed.

Expert Lecture on “Efficient Handling of Resources”

BFGI is continuously organising several expert lectures, seminars and conferences to impart knowledge to students regarding latest techniques and happenings in the technical world. To continue this tradition, Baba Farid College of Engineering &Technology organised an expert lecture on the topic “Efficient Handling of Resources” by the renowned researcher Dr. Manish Kumar, Associate Professor, Punjab University Regional Center, Muktsar. His main research filed is Optical Character Recognition. He was welcomed by Er. SukhpreetKaur, Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The expert lecture was organised for the students of Department of CSE & IT. He talked about the limited resources available in computers & how to use them efficiently to prevent the occurrence of deadlocks in a system.
Students found the lecture very informative and were glad to hear such eminent personality. In the end, Dr. Manish Kumar was thanked by Ms. GurveenKaur, Head, Department of Information Technology, for taking time out from his busy schedule to visit the college. Dr. Jasbir S. Hundal, Director- Principal, BFCET appreciated the efforts done by Departments of CSE & IT to hold expert lecture & to make students more aware and informative. Mr. Gurmeet S. Dhaliwal, M.D, BFGI, expressed his satisfaction on the conduct of expert lecture and further added that students should take maximum benefit of these activities to raise their knowledge level. He ensured that these types of activities will continue to happen in future also.
